Teams on the Rise
This past week we saw many teams rise up to the occasion and win some big games. To start
off, Texas Tech won a huge game against Utah and solidified themselves as the team to beat in
the Big 12. Over in the Big Ten Indiana dominated Illinois and turned a lot of heads in this win. I
was not sure of their talent and they proved they have what it takes to compete with the best
this season. Both of these teams were not big topics when discussing the college football
playoffs, but thanks to these big wins we should be hearing them talked about more often as
the season goes on.
Tops 25 Madness
We already talked about two big top 25 matchups, but we cannot forget to mention the big win
for Oklahoma who continues to pick up big wins against ranked opponents. This week it was
against Auburn who looked like they could be on the rise, but fell short against Oklahoma. The
other topic to discuss with the top 25 is who is legit? While a handful of teams have already
showed they belong here, I think we will start to see in the coming weeks which teams really
deserve a sport in the top 25
Group of 5 Turmoil
I love a good underdog story. Each year I am rooting for these smaller schools to shock the
world. I even made a list of my favorites from the group of 5 conferences to make the playoffs,
but as the season rolls on, my confidence in a Cinderella story is starting to falter. Tulane got
dominated by Ole Miss. USF ran into a brick wall with Miami the week before and UNLV seems
to be barely holding it together at 4-0 and their one big win was against a terrible UCLA team.
With that being said, I still believe someone will rise to the challenge! Hopefully UNLV can
dominate conference play and manage to rise up in the MWC, but only time will tell. Will we
see even one team come out of the Group of 5 conferences that can actually compete with one
of these power house schools?
Week 5 preview
Week 5 is around the corner with some monster matchups and plenty of sleeper games to
keep an eye on. To start off 21 USC vs 23 Illinois. Will Illinois bounce back after that terrible
loss or is USC a legit top 25 team? 4 LSU vs 13 Ole Miss. We have seen LSU already pick up a
big win against a ranked opponent, but Ole Miss will probably be a bigger challenge the
Clemson. Continuing in the SEC we have 17 Alabama vs 5 Georgia. Georgia has already been
tested once this year against a tough opponent while Alabama is trying to find their first quality
win of the season after losing to FSU. The next monster matchup is 6 Oregon vs 3 Penn State.
This matchup is going to potentially decide which of these teams is in the BIG Ten
championship. Now, I have some sleeper games I will be watching that could be some solid
matchups. 24 TCU vs Arizona State, 11 Indiana vs Iowa, 22 Notre Dames vs Arkansas, 1 Ohio
State vs Washington, Auburn vs 9 Texas A&M, 15 Tennessee vs Mississippi State and Arizona
vs 14 Iowa State. None of these are top 25 matchups, but each of these games has the
potential for one of these top 25 teams to either show they are legit or a chance for the
unranked teams to show they should be in the top 25.
