Who is number one?
Week 5 of college football made some things clear for me. There is no clear number one team. Week 5 showcased close games and crazy upsets that furthered this narrative. So, after a wild week I am going to list my top 5 teams in college football.
1. Oregon
2. Ohio State
3. Miami
4. Ole Miss
5. Texas A&M
Top 25 Upsets
Another week and we have even more top 25 teams taking an L against teams they were favored against. We have to talk about 8 FSU losing in double OT to Virginia. I think this one speaks more about Virginia then it does FSU, but as a team looking to right the ship after a horrible season, this does not bode well for the Seminoles. We also saw 17 Alabama take down 5 Georgia, 13 Ole Miss beat 4 LSU, and Arizona State take down 24 TCU. The week had several exciting games to watch and these upsets continue to show that just about anyone still has a chance to right the ship this early in the season.
Best Conference
As we conference battles continue to happen throughout college football, I am going to list how I think the power conferences rank at this point in the season.
1. Big Ten
2. SEC
3. Big 12
4. ACC
I think the Big Ten has the most quality teams out of any conference. Of course there are a few bottom dwellers, but I think the middle of the pack within the Big Ten is better then most give them credit for. The SEC has quality teams, but I do think some of those teams are ranked too high and we will see them drop as the season goes on. The Big 12 has gotten better the past fews years while the ACC has seemingly gotten weaker. While the ACC has teams ranked higher in the Top 25, much like the SEC I think they are ranked a little too high.
Week 6 preview
I am not sure how week 6 is going to top week 5, but there are plenty of exciting games on the schedule for us to look forward to. We get to find out if 16 Vanderbilt is legit or will they fall to 10 Alabama. Mississippi State is taking on 6 Texas A&M. Mississippi State is proving to be a challenge for everyone and has already got one big upset under their belt this season. I think Texas A&M continues on cruising, but don’t sleep on this Mississippi State team. We also see 18 FSU vs 3 Miami in a showdown of two ACC giants. FSU is looking to bounce back this week, but have a tough matchup to do so. 24 Virginia is looking to keep things rolling against
Louisville, but Louisville is still undefeated and has the chance to cause even more chaos in this college football season. We also have to keep an eye on Cincinnati vs 14 Iowa State. Iowa State has been good lately, but Cincinnati has turned things around since their week one loss against Nebraska. Lastly, these are my sleeper games to keep an eye on throughout the weekend. West Virginia vs 23 BYU, 22 Illinois vs Purdue, 9 Texas vs Florida, 11 Texas Tech vs Houston and Nebraska vs Michigan State.
