Conference Champs
We are just over halfway through the college football season. So, what better time then now to
crown who I think will be the conference champs for each conference at the end of the season.
Big Ten - Indiana
SEC - Alabama
ACC - Georgia Tech
Big 12 - Cincinnati
MWC - Boise State
AAC - USF
Sun Belt - JMU
MAC - Western Michigan
CUSA - Kennesaw State
To start off, I think Indiana has put together some impressive wins, and while initially I was
going to put Ohio State, I would love to see Indiana take the crown and be the best team out of
the Big ten this year. In the SEC, Alabama has made some huge strides since their week 1 loss
and looks like the best team coming out of the SEC right now. Georgia Tech stays undefeated
after beating Duke and as of right now, they are the team to beat in the ACC. I have watched
Cincinnati get better and better each week, so I would not be surprised if they are Big 12
champs this season. When we look at the group of 5 conferences, I think Boise State has
bounced back very well and can take the MWC. USF may be a playoff team and should run the
course in the AAC. In the Sun Belt, JMU has been dominate in conference play. I think the
MAC conference is a little tougher because no one looks all that great in that conference right
now. Western Michigan has been the best looking so far. CUSA Kennesaw State looks like a
much improved team in year two of being in FBS football and may be the best team coming
out of their conference.
Top 25 Madness
Every week we see the games get more intense and week 8 was no different for some of our top 25 teams. 17 Vanderbilt bounced back from their loss to Alabama by beating 10 LSU. 12 Georgia Tech kept the undefeated season alive with a win against Duke. Over in the SEC again 9 Georgia took down 5 Ole Miss, keeping their conference champion hopes alive. We saw some big upsets with 22 Memphis losing to UAB and 7 Texas Tech losing to Arizona State. 13 Notre Dame seems to continue to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win over 20 USC. 6
Alabama handled business against 11 Tennessee. Finally, 15 BYU managed to also keep their
undefeated season rolling with a win over 23 Utah.
Group of 5 on the Rise
Now, as the season continues to roll on their are some group of 5 teams that are hoping to
make their Cinderella run to the playoffs a reality. USF despite the loss to Miami is still holding
strong in the top 25 and has been making a strong case they will be the team to do it. Boise
State is looking strong these past 2 weeks despite their 2 losses. Will they be able to play well
enough to convince the committee they belong? Tulane continues to play well in AAC play and
Navy is still undefeated so far this season. Who will be able to represent the group of 5 schools
come playoff time?
Week 9 preview
Every game matters and this is even more true as we get into the second half of the season.
Here are some bigs games to keep an eye on this weekend. 8 Ole Miss vs 13 Oklahoma, will
Ole Miss be able to bounce back after their lose to Georgia. 2 Indiana vs UCLA, this should be
an easy win for Indiana, which means it could also be a trap game for them. 10 Vanderbilt vs
15 Missouri, both of these teams have lost to Alabama and need this win to keep their playoff
hopes alive. 3 Texas A&M vs 20 LSU, There is a chance for Texas A&M to elevate themselves
as one of the best teams in college football right now, as well as, being able to end LSU hopes
at being in the playoffs this year. These are some sleeper games to keep an eye on as well, 18
USF vs Memphis, Syracuse vs 7 Georgia Tech, 11 BYU vs Iowa State, Baylor vs 21 Cincinnati,
25 Michigan vs Michigan State and Houston vs 24 Arizona State
