Quarterback Rankings You Didn’t Ask For: NFC South Edition

Welcome back to another round of quarterback rankings no one asked me for, but I’m going to give you anyway. This time we’re diving into the NFC South — a division that’s been chaotic at QB for years and still doesn’t have a clear-cut superstar. But somebody’s gotta win it, and here’s how I see the quarterback rooms stacking up heading into the season.
4. Whoever the Saints Put Out There
Let’s be real — the Saints’ quarterback situation is a mystery, and not in a good way. They’ve got a room full of questions and not a single answer. Whether it’s Jameis Winston, a rookie, or a patchwork option, none of them scream “long-term franchise guy.” Honestly, it feels like New Orleans is already playing for the 2026 NFL Draft’s number one pick. Not much else to say here except good luck, Saints fans.
3. Michael Penix Jr. (Atlanta Falcons)
Penix is one of the more exciting young names in the division. After taking over late last season from Kirk Cousins, he showed flashes that he could be the real deal. He’s got the arm talent, he’s got the poise, and the Falcons believe in him enough to give him the reins. Still, he’s unproven over a full season, which is why he lands at No. 3 for now. The potential is absolutely there for him to climb higher on this list.
2. Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers)
It’s been a rocky start to Bryce Young’s NFL career, no doubt about it. But late last season, he started to turn the corner. After losing his job temporarily to Andy Dalton, Young came back stronger, looked more composed, and actually strung together some solid performances. Honestly, that benching might’ve been the best thing that could’ve happened to him. If he keeps trending upward, he could lock down the Panthers’ future — but right now, he’s still got some growing to do.
1. Baker Mayfield (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
Say what you want about Baker, but right now, he runs this division. He’s proven he can win, he’s got the fire in him, and most importantly, he’s surrounded by weapons that can help him succeed. Evans, Godwin, White — the pieces are all there. Baker may not be elite, but compared to the rest of this division’s chaos, he’s the safest and strongest bet to carry his team to the top of the NFC South.
Final Thoughts
The NFC South isn’t exactly a quarterback paradise right now, but it does have some intrigue. Baker is the guy to beat, Bryce Young is trying to find his footing, Penix is the exciting newcomer, and the Saints… well, they’re the Saints.
This division might not have the flashiest names under center, but it’s going to be fascinating to watch how these QB situations play out — whether you asked for these rankings or not.
